How do we age and why?
As we grow older, many of us are convinced that the effects of aging are inevitable. We mistakenly believe that sagging skin, age spots and wrinkles are a natural part of growing older. We believe that the effects of time are inescapable, that everyone will grow and look old.

Fortunately, what has been discovered is that only a small percentage of aging is unavoidable. Intrinsic aging is caused by aging on the cellular level, the natural decrease in specific hormones as we get older. Intrinsic aging is indeed the effects of time on the body. However, Intrinsic aging only accounts for approximately 20% of aging effects.

Extrinsic Aging is caused by external factors. Sun exposure, cigarette smoke, pollution, and diet can cause premature aging. These factors can cause up to 80% of the effects of aging. But with IHB Pro DermaCare System, you can minimize the effects of extrinsic aging, protecting your skin from aging and repairing existing damage.
Oxidative Stress: The Effect of Free Radicals
Most of the effects of Extrinsic Aging can be traced to the damaged caused by Free Radicals. Free Radicals are unstable molecules that have lost an electron in interactions with other molecules-free radicals are constantly searching to capture an electron. When a free radical comes in contact with your skin cells, it can cause damage to your cellular membrane, cause inflammation, and possibly cause mutations to your cell's blueprint, the nuclear DNA.

Pollution, cigarette smoke and ultraviolet radiation from the sun are all extrinsic factors which can lead to free radical damage. These factors can cause the body to enter a state of oxidative stress-when free radicals overwhelm the body's natural defenses.

Oxidation occurs everywhere there is air: iron rusts in air, an apple half will turn brown, and a rubber band will lose its elasticity. Oxidation takes place in your body as well. With every breath you take you give your body the oxygen it needs to survive. Unfortunately, not all the oxygen is converted to energy-a small percentage loses electrons to become free radicals. Being under the sun or in a smoky room amplifies the number of free radicals you come in contact with thus increasing the rate of extrinsic aging. Fortunately, you can combat free radicals with the unique antioxidants found in the IHB Skin Care Systems.
Antioxidants: Protection and Restoration
Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by joining with the free radical, giving the free radical the electron it needs to complete itself. Your body produces powerful antioxidants on its own: superoxide dimutase, glutathione, and melanin. However, external factors can limit these antioxidants. For example, exposure to UV radiation can drastically reduce levels of glutathione, leaving the body more susceptible to free radicals. Increasing environmental toxins in the air and water increase our exposure to free radicals.

IHB Skin Care Systems combats free radicals with its own specially formulated antioxidants: Excellen-C, Excellen-D, and Excellen-T8. The antioxidants in the IHB Skin Care Systems, combined with your bodies natural antioxidants can:

1. Prevent the formation of free radicals
2. Intercept and absorb free radicals
3. Help repair oxidative damage
4. Assist eliminating damaged molecules
5. Minimize the number of mutations

Combined with a good diet, rich in antioxidants, the effects of extrinsic aging can be reversed, leaving you with younger and healthier looking skin.
Acne
It has been reported that over $100 million is spent annually on over-the-counter acne treatments. Hundreds of millions of dollars more were spent on prescription treatments. 85% of adolescents and young adults are affected by acne, where 40% suffer severe acne to warrant treatment by a physician. Both the physical and psychological scarring of acne can be prevented or repaired with clear, healthy skin. The IHB Skin Care Systems could help to prevent the formation of acne.

The causes of acne can be classified into hormones, sebum, bacteria and genetics. Typically acne occurs when rising hormones, specifically androgens, causes the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more oil, or sebum. The sebaceous glands and canal around a hair follicle, together called the pilosebaceous unit, sometimes clogs, resulting in a comedo. The clog allows the buildup of sebum, where Propionibacterium acnes or P. Acne bacteria will proliferate, which can result in a white blood cell response, pus and inflammation.

The multiple hydroxy acids will cleanse the pores while sloughing off skin cells to prevent the formation of comedos. Retinol works in concert, unclogging pores, and stimulating growth to repair damage pores. Both the hydroxy acids and Retinol can lighten spots and blemishes, repairing acne damage. The anti-inflammatory action of the antioxidants will decrease inflammation throughout the process. The IHB Skin Care Systems provide a systematic response to keep the skin looking its healthy best.
